We had the chance to grab lunch with Phillip who currently resides at International. He gave us a little info about his background, experience, and professional life with Alpha Clothing-a local fitness lifestyle brand. Check it out!

How long have you been a resident at International?

“Since August of 2016”

Where are you from and what brought you to KC?

“I am a military kid, so I’m from pretty much everywhere”. My family resides here in KC, so I moved here from California.

What do you enjoy most about living at the International?

“The location. It is right in the middle of everything- a short drive to the plaza, downtown, my office in the crossroads, and the highway.”

What is Alpha Clothing?

“A friend of mine started the company and asked me to join last year. I was working at sprint as a network engineer and after layoffs, this opportunity came up. I have always been interested in fashion design, so it was a no-brainer when my friend asked me to join. Alpha Clothing is a lifestyle brand focused on the fitness enthusiast. We started with developing clothing for body builders, as we saw a need in the market. Nike, Addidas, and some of the big named companies focus on broad sports demographics but sometimes provides a low-quality product. We found a niche in the bodybuilding community as they needed super high-quality active-wear. Now that our brand has grown, we are branching out to anyone that is into fitness and wants quality wearables.”

What do you do for Alpha Clothing?

“I handle a lot of the customer service, operations, reviews, and marketing. We are only a 4 person team right now, so everyone is involved in a little bit of everything.”

Alpha Clothing’s logo looks like someone or something that is always in a state of climbing. What does the logo mean?

The Alpha logo stands for the A in Alpha. It’s a representation of what we stand for.

Do you find that balancing work and social life is more difficult, now that you are involved in a startup?

“No. Actually, I feel it is more balanced. Many of the social activities we do involve clients, partners, and influencers that we work with.”

What advice would you give someone looking to get into fashion or learn about a business?

“Just start doing it. Dive deep into it. There are so many resources online that you can just do it.”

What are your goals for 2017 and beyond?

“I would like to contribute to helping my company double and triple sales as well as launching a flagship brick and mortar store here in KC.

What would you say to someone looking to live in this area?

“I love it”.
