Employees of Mac – Damian

This week’s Employees of Mac is Damian Starr. Known for his subtle humor and the consistency of his haircuts, there’s more to Damian than meets the eye. He is a father, a husband, a comic book collector and claims to have a wealth of useless information. Let’s get to know the Mac Manager a bit more as he answers our questions.

How long have you been an employee at Mac?
1 year

What do you like to do in your free time?
Lately most of my “free time” is spent playing with my two-year-old son who is amazing, there is little I love more in this world than watching him grow and learn the simple things I take for granted each day. I also spend a lot of time preparing myself for the arrival of my second child which is due in October of 2016. When I do decide to take a moment to really decompress I like to read fiction novels, and other more nerdy things like collecting comic books and anything else I can do to cling to my childhood.

What do you enjoy most about working at Mac?
Working at Mac for the past year has provided me many opportunities to work on many different kinds of projects which have helped me grow in my personal and professional life.

What is your favorite Mac Apartment and why?
I am currently loving Montclair on the Park because of its brand new first floor, once the renovations are complete in this building I believe Montclair will be one of the nicest apartment communities in STL. (Click here to see current and future availability for

Describe yourself in 3 words.
Grateful, father, diligent.

What’s your biggest strength?
I am very thoughtful at times. And I have a wealth of useless information.

What’s your biggest weakness?
I will go out of my way help others and take on more work even when it is a detriment to myself.

Tell me about one of your favorite memories in St. Louis.
One of my favorite memories in STL was the Rams winning the Super Bowl. In 1995 the Rams came to STL (I was 11 then) and I was talking to my father about it, and he told me it would probably take 10 years for the team to get a good footing and be a serious contender for winning the Super Bowl. But just five years after their arrival Kurt Warner, Isaac Bruce, Marshall Faulk, Tori Holt, and Ricky Proehl were unstoppable. I am not a huge sports fan, but as a teenager, I followed STL sports pretty well. I also got very wrapped up in the home run race Between Mark McGuire, Sammy Sosa, and Ken Griffey Jr.

What attracts you to STL?
I grew up in St. Louis and moved away in my early twenties. I always thought I would live in STL my whole life and shortly after moving away was ready to come back. After 6 years in Florida I had a son and started planning on another kid, this led to my wife and I house shopping and putting ours up for sale, about 1 week after our house going under contract we decided if we are going to move, we might as well go back to STL where our families are so our children can grow up closer to their grandparents and aunts and uncles. So, in short, family.

Tell us something interesting about your personal life, or charity work.
This spring I went out with the Missouri River Clean Up crew to remove trash from a river in Hazelwood, its kind of silly but just being out there near the water with my father and sister at dawn when it was about 50 degrees out with a strong wind was refreshing a great way to spend a few hours. The section of river we cleaned was in a park that my father hung out as a child, and it just made me feel good to be doing a good thing in a place that he has such fond memories of.

What would you like to promote or let residents know?
Did you know that your rent can be paid online, or even automatically paid each month? Online rent payments and automatic rent payments can be made using your checking account information with no fees. This gives you one less thing to have to remember to do each month and can reduce the amount automatically generated e-mails that you get concerning rent reminders.

What would you say to someone looking to live in this area?
St. Louis has something for everyone. It combines big city life with a mid-west mindset, the people are very neighborly and it is a community of people who truly stand together.
